[pct-l] Wrist Rocket

Bears come at night when you are sleeping. To seriously use a wrist rocket
you will need to hang your food. Ok how much does a wrist rocket, two
counterbalance sacks and counterbalance line weigh? About a pound I'd guess.
So you go through all this trouble to save $150 for a canister and .7 pound
in your pack. Or do you just think it's fun to shoot steelies at bears?

The bottom line is that it appears that if one attempts to hike the Sierra
between June and October without a bear canister you have a significant
chance of a nasty, expensive ticket and loads of hassel. Although the
regulations apply to "storing food" the reality is that the Inyo Rangers are
insisting on physical possession of a bear canister which they want to see.
Or do you plan to shoot steelies at the Rangers?

Note to Joanne:
The pack train that past me in INYO had metal panniers.

Can be found in most any sports store ( Big 5, G.I. Joes, etc.) A wrist
rocket is a sling shot that fits over your wrist. Uses rubber tubing and
cost
around 10 dollars. To have super acurate hits , you must use small steelie
ballbearing. Rocks are cheap and still do a fair job.
