HI: my name is Bill Jennings; and your trip from Walker Pass is intriguing. If you hit Donna Saufleys in Agua Dulce during Memorial Day weekend, when there will be 30+ hikers it will be too hot, therefore a mid April start so that you arrive late April or May 1, will eliminate heat problems. Note: that at least 3 storms can come through between mid April to Memorial Day and this includes Mt Laguna, only 42 miles from the border. At any rate, 60+ hikers will be leaving the Lake Morena area on the last weekend in April, and with that they bring information that you can exchange along the trail. If you are interested, I can send you accurate hiking days between resupply points, from '99 and '00 registrations, and even let you know who is coming in your mail drops. Donna would have some preliminary information, as well as the folks in Grass Valley, Wrightwood, the Litttletons in San Gorgonio Pass, Tahquitz Inn in Idylwild, and Pat and Paul in Anza.

No matter, you are going to get into some hot weather, around Lake Silverwood, San Gorgonio Pass, and Pines to Palms highway south to Warner Springs. There is relief there for 8 miles to Barrel Springs then the intense heat of the San Felipe Hills to the uplands near Lake Cuyamaca. You have to assume that you will get no help, and plan accordingly. In the words of '76 thru hiker Jerry Smith, "Plan for the worst, Hope for the best, And take what you get"
