There are places to drill for oil and there are places to leave alone for the 
benefit of the environment.  I am retired from a former career in the oil 
industry and yet, as has been illustrated here, I am a rather stubborn, 
radical environmentalist.  When the ANWR was being eyed for drilling about 
ten years ago I went on a writing campaign to Congress arguing that America 
could conserve, with a little incentive from the Fed, the amount of estimated 
oil there without much trouble. Hell, in the early '70's we shaved 
approximately 15% of our consumption of oil when the price went up so high 
and we didn't even really try very hard.  I got form letters back.  But, the 
next time that I met my Congressman he brought it up and remembered!  Rare!
