[pct-l] Books for Reading

Thank you all for the great idea's of books for winter reading pleasure!!
Now ,I will have to improve on my 4th grade reading level skills and check
some of these out.( though I have become quite good at sounding out the "Big
Words" from my PCT guide book) Anyone who uses a Thomas Winnett guide book
will readily learn to say metamorphic andasite five plus times a day while
cussing up some 2,000 ft. dry hot climb. Only a rock hound like Hummel would
ever enjoy reading about such rocks while dieing of heat stroke going up some
killer hill. Ed Abbey- - - great guy- -poor kayaker- -great writer. Anyone
who shoots his T.V. set out in the desert can't be all bad. ( I was on hand
for the great " Glenn Canyon Damm Hoax " in early eighties) Monkey Wrench
Gang put large plastic crack on the damm. nice touch!!! Poles verses Elbows-
- paddling helps strengthen arms and will give a hiker a good cross training
exercise. Go paddle the land of Ed Abbey( maybe even find his loss remands
!!) down the Green River in Utah. Start at the town of Green River and paddle
120 miles down stream to Spanish bottom on the Colorado River. Lots of good
side hikes and scenery in April, then do the PCT starting late April. Elbows
and arms will be good shape . ( Canoes are also good for this trip, the mini
vans of the water world)
