As a section/day-hiker, I quite often hike north-to-south. That increases the
odds of seeing other hikers. No matter how fast or slow I am, eventually
we'll meet along the trail.
Some of us just aren't fast enough to "pass" other hikers going in the same
direction. If you really want to meet other hikers, try starting in Canada
next year and hike to Campo.
Or, ... just go to PJ's Coffee Shop in Lone Pine in early June and see them
all as they head into the Sierras.
