Good backpackers have NO problem with a Thermarest. They simply used it in a
tent, not on open ground.  In one sense you are right. For a Thermarest to
pamper me I must pamper it. [sexist comments deleted] For old guys, like me,
a 3/4 Thermarest SE [1.5 inches of padding, weight 17 ounces] works better
than scooping out a hip depression every time one camps [This??? is stealth
camping and leave no trace???] When I sit I use a 1/4 section of Ridgerest
that I also use to extend my pad to full length.
