[pct-l] Self arrest with trekking poles

FYI: there is a special ski pole handle that is used by backcountry ski
patrol that is specially designed to be used as a self arrest device. I saw
one ultra light on the PCT with one on his pack. He had cut the pole off and
was just using the handle as a light weight self arrest device. It did not
look as good as an ice ax but seemed like it might do the trick. Don't know
where to get them. Saw them only that once.

Also, bugbite, don't pay that price. You should be able to get a pair of
tips for under $20 and they come with instructions on how to replace. Look
in your local mountaineering store, they might have them.
