Couldn't agree more, Jim.  I bought the large snow baskets to use with my REI 
poles when I go snow camping (with snowshoes.)  Also, the poles were 
essential this past summer on the PCT because of the dangerous snowfields.  
The small mud baskets that come with the poles worked just fine on the packed 
summer snow.
