RE: [pct-l] Moss SuperFly Tent

There are several pyramid type tents. With and without floors.

* Black Diamond make the MegaMid (floorless -
www.blackdiamondequipment.com).
* Dana makes the Nuk Tuk (with floor - http://www.danadesign.com/).
* Integral Design makes the Pyramid tarp (floorless -
http://www.integraldesigns.com/).
* Fjallraven - a Swedish company makes the Octatarp. I'm not sure if it's
available in the US (floorless, but you can get a footprint -
http://www.fjallraven.se/).

The great thing about the pyramid is that you get a lot floor space (but not
volume) for the weight. The question is if you really need it for a
thruhike. I used a Megamid for part of my thruhike - and found it restricted
the number of campsites I could use quite a bit. All the tents above need an
area of 9 by 9 feet or more. The Superfly (which I've seen only on pictures)
seem quite a bit smaller. 34 sq feet compared to 81++. It's also
asymetrical, so it should have enough headroom at ends.

Bugs wasn't a big problem (but I didn't use the Megamid in a really buggy
area). The bugs do get inside, but tend to get lazy and just sit on the tent
fabric. Mice running over your head is annoying though.

Conclusion: Pyramids are great, but I think there are better options for a
one person thruhike.
