I find that application of 30 to 40 percent DEET and wearing white clothing
keeps those biting bugs off in the distance... Instead of buying those sun
screen + insect repellent, I just whip up my personal strength batch by
mixing in the needed amount of liquid DEET into my favorite sun screen...
Works pretty good for those daytime activities.
