They are hiking poles.  And no, this isn't a Polish joke, although I'm Polish,
so I guess when I'm using them, it's actually three hiking poles, but Jeff can
only borrow two of them.  :)  While Jeff is backpacking on the AT, I'll be at
the Gathering in WV flirting mercilessly with all the hiker babes!  How come
they always run the other way?  :)
