I have no problem with lumber companies thinning forests. But I *DO* object
to clearcutting. I've seen far too much of that right here in our state on
lands for which we have agreements to keep a trail corridor open for the FT,
then the state subcontracts to the lumber company, who doesn't follow orders
and comes in and blows the whole forest away-- including the blazed trail. I
think permitting the lumber companies to remove timber from public lands
should go hand in hand with stewardship of those lands. Simply pushing it off
to the lumber companies is not going to ensure good management of our forest
lannds.
