I can answer to this one.  We are not out to profit from annual meetings (other
than the raffle and auction)-- we do our very best simply to cover costs.  The
fees for lodging and meals were a direct pass-through to the camp (we charge you
what they charge us); the registration fee covers all other costs - presenters,
supplies, tent & porta-john rentals, all that kind of stuff.

We are always open to other suggestions on where to have our conference - so far
we've been unable to find anything cheaper.  (Consider this a challenge!)

Some folks yearn for the "old days" of charging $3 bucks a head to rent a big
field with no amenities (like hot water and flush toilets), everyone providing
their own shelter and meals, meetings and workshops held "al fresco".  This way
may bring the kids on, but I'm sure it would deter more than a few others!

Well as someone with three kids I have to say that the high cost of taking a
family to the meeting kept us away. Kids are charged the full price and it
would have cost us $70 to attend which was far above what we normally would
pay for camping anywhere. So my conclusion was that FTA does not want
families to attend these meetings and set the charges at a level to keep
them away.
