      Professional Trail Construction Coordinator Position Announced


The Florida Trail Association is now accepting applications for the new=
ly
created position of Florida National Scenic Trail Construction Coordina=
tor.
The Florida Trail Association (FTA) is a 35-year old nonprofit organiza=
tion
of over 5000 members dedicated to building hiking trails, especially th=
e
Florida National Scenic Trail (FNST).  The FNST is one of the nation's
elite hiking trails, and when completed it will extend 1,300 miles over=
 the
length of Florida.

This professional, full-time position will coordinate and supervise tra=
il
development, construction and maintenance of the FNST.  Responsibilitie=
s
include:
=D8    Oversee trail construction planning, design, budgeting and opera=
tions;
=D8    Coordinate trail construction, management and maintenance activi=
ties
with public and private land managers,   FTA volunteers and the USDA Fo=
rest
Service in accordance with FNST certification agreements;
=D8    Recruit, train, and supervise trail crews;
=D8    Secure, inventory and manage FTA's trail development tools, equi=
pment,
materials and supplies;
=D8    Utilize and maintain computerized trail databases;
=D8    Secure approvals, permits and design services for trail developm=
ent;
=D8    Maintain an accurate assessment of existing trail conditions;
=D8    Prepare trail construction and management plans and progress and=

status reports;
=D8    Prepare and perform public presentations about the FNST and the =
FTA;
and
=D8    As assigned, assist with the trail inventory, FNST certification=
 and
trail protection.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual who is committed to helpin=
g
the FTA and the National Forests in Florida provide outstanding hiking
opportunities and experiences on the FNST.  This position requires a st=
rong
outdoor orientation and collaborative skills.  Strong candidates are th=
ose
who have leadership experience in constructing and managing hiking trai=
ls
through collaborative partnerships of volunteers, private and public
agencies, land managers, trail users and the public.  The position requ=
ires
a Bachelor's degree, extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects =
of
hiking trail planning, design, construction and management, and ability=
 to
communicate effectively orally and in writing.  Supervisory experience,=

knowledge of the FNST, FTA and its partners, and trail construction
practices in Florida are highly desirable.  Also desirable are those
experienced in backpacking, hiking and camping.  Candidates must posses=
s a
valid driver's license, an acceptable driving record and be willing to
travel extensively.

As a professional, full-time employee of the Florida Trail Association =
this
position offers a benefit package including health insurance, vacation,=

holiday and sick leave, and retirement after vesting.  This is a salari=
ed
position with an annual pay range of $28,000 to $33,000 plus benefits
commensurate with training and experience.  The selected candidate must=

sign a one-year employment contract.

The Trail Construction Coordinator is a key member of the FNST Team, wh=
ich
is made up of FTA and USDA Forest Service staff.  The position is stati=
oned
in Tallahassee, Florida within the offices of the Forest Supervisor of =
the
National Forests in Florida.  The FTA's FNST Liaison and the FTA Vice
President for Trail supervise this position.
