Regarding Sara's question #5, thru hikers with whom she can correspond.  

Rick Guhse is keeping the roads hot between Winter Park & Alabama where he's working himself into a frenzy 
helping folks there establish an FT-like infrastructure so they can build an Alabama Trail to link the FT to the AT.

Jon Phipps is unavailable until about August 30.  This Thursday (August 16) he'll complete his AT thru hike (his third)!!!!!  He started April 15 at Springer Mtn, so he's made great time.  Between August 17 and toward the end of August, he'll be playing tourist with his Maine squeeze.
