Re: [at-l] suggestion for a 2-week hike in August

Suggestion:

The Ocala Trail section of the Florida Trail in March or Autumn
would be a much better choice for a first-time backpacking trip.
It's 70 miles long, it's relatively flat, it's near where they
live. It's within the Ocala National Forest and there are two
very nice springs at Juniper Springs and Alexander Springs where
they could take a day off in mid-hike and go swimming. They can
get a few supplies (and a beer if they imbib) at the 88 Store
almost on the trail in the mid-section of the Ocala Trail.

This could give them a taste of what backpacking is about without
having them get discouraged by hiking the terrain in Georgia
during the heat of August.

Just a thought...
