Re: [at-l] Hiking Plans

With all the other BS we've been writing about, you have given a trail
question and gotten NADA!

Okay, for end of March. much depends on the type of hiking you want, and
the amount of people you will want to walk with. March still is bad
weather, frequently, even in GA. The is beginning to be the end of the big
push of Northbounders out of Springer. Of course, if you are skilled in
winter hiking, you could still find a good hike further north, but with
fewer people to walk with.

I took a week off last Spring and walked up near Springer and blended in
with the thru-hikers. It was a fun experience, that I heartily recommend.
There is a bit of Spring Break/party feel, as well as the focus of enjoying
and learning of your hike. I got to meet a number of folks I never heard of
before or since (anyone know how far Shagbark of Tampa made it?), and it
really infected me with the desire to do the Big Walk someday. I think you
could jump in anywhere between Springer and Fontana and do well, with
limited severe weather risk (other than wind). Of course, this region of
the trail is full of PUDs, but is a great deal of fun.
