I really admire the guy and think that he of all thru-hikers is entitled to
his express his opinions on the Trail having experienced it over such a
broad span of time. I do note however that it is fashionable in this
country to tear down anyone who becomes well known, whether movie star,
athlete, politician or what ever. Our society seems intent on 'digging up
the dirt' or other wise finding fault with such people. I suppose that
someone who has Earl's renown must be subject to some of that phenomenon.
Personally, I hope that I'm in shape to do what he did when I'm 79 and
"whine" about it afterward.
