The latest info from the GATC list:

As you know the Trail is officially closed from Woody to Neel.  Also closed
are the access trails:  Duncan Ridge, Coosa Bald, Byron Herbert Reece,
Jarrard and Slaughter Gap Trails.  The Nantahala Club's President, Bud
Colcord personally went out this afternoon and posted signs at four key
sites to alert southbound hikers of the situation.   The ATC has posted the
news on it's web site and is alerting some hostels/hiker stops as well.  
 
The fire has been contained on the west side of Blood Mtn. but has stretched
to Hwy 129 across and near the Blood Mtn. Cabins.  The firefighters are
working hard to protect private cabins/homes in the area.  The website for
