Frequently Asked Questions about the International Appalachian Trail (SIA/IAT)
Q: Is this trail part of, or going to be part of, the Appalachian Trail?
A: No. The SIA/IAT is not a part of, or extension to, the Appalachian Trail.
It connects to the AT at Mt. Katahdin in Maine, just as many other trails
connect to the AT throughout its length.
Q: Does the SIA/IAT fundraise from Appalachian Trail Conference members?
A: The SIA/IAT does not solicit phone contributions from individuals. The
Quebec Chapter is currently working with corporate donors associated with
Quebec. The Maine Chapter would be glad to accept memberships and donations
via our membership form, but phone solicitations are not part of our
fundraising. Be wary of such a solicitation without contacting this club for
confirmation, just as you would be wary for any other phone solicitations.
Q: How does this affect Thru-hiking?
A: You can still thru-hike the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine, or
you can thru-hike the SIA/IAT from Maine To Quebec, or you can do both. Any
choice is up to you and is worthy of admiration.
Q: Are there guides for hiking the IAT?
A: Guides are being prepared and should be available in time for this hiking
season. Check back on this website for downloadable versions later.
