That depends on whose definition you use. I prefer my own definition. I
won't say what it is because you should hike according to your own
definition. BTW - ATC does not recognize "thru-hikers". It recognizes 2000
milers. By their rules you only need to hike the whole trail. You could
take 20 years (or more) if you wanted and hike in either direction on each
of hte sections and it still counts.
