[at-l] MY BEST ADVICE...

MY BEST ADVICE for those of you planning a thru-hike any time in the future
is, please, please, please plan on taking a full three weeks (yes, 21 days)
to get from SPRINGER to FONTANA. during that time, take three days off,
choose from NEELS GAP, HELEN, BLUEBERRY PATCH, HIAWASSEE, RAINBOW SPRINGS
CG, FRANKLIN, or WESSER. that will be 18 hiking days to go 164 miles. then
take a day off in FONTANA VILLAGE before tackling the SMOKIES...

you will need this time to reshape your body, your gear, your attitude, and
your plans. and you will have the best shot at being healthy and strong,
both mentally and physically, for the next 1996 miles...

for those of you that feel your schedule does not permit this slow of a
start, you are wrong. this is a classic "tortoise and hare" situation...

anyone else have something to contribute to the category of "MY BEST
ADVICE" ...
