[at-l] hiker puzzle

Here is a little hiker puzzle for you.  I like to think of these things
while hiking for some reason.

As you are descending from Roan High Knob you meet a group of four hikers
coming up the mountain.  Three of them are hiking with their sons, but only
one is hiking with his father.  

What combinations can you think of to match that description?
