Chondroitin (Was: RE: [at-l] new to the list and a bad knee)

Not short term.  It's not like aspirin or anything - you generally have to 
take it for a few months before you notice any improvement.

Do remember me at the Ruck, not last year but the year before?  I could 
barely walk the 6 miles of our hike and I had no pack on.  Now (at least, 
before I hurt my back) I'm able to run 15 miles, and I did that 20-mile 2 
day hike with Woodelf... I believe it's at least partly attributable to the 
glucosamine sulfate I took (often sold as a combo pill of the sulfate and 
chondroitin, but some sources say the chondroitin molecule is too big to 
really be absorbed by the body, so I paid my money the single component).

Some people say it's a placebo effect, but the stuff was developed for 
animals who have no expectations of it.  My mother's dog took it for some 
time for arthritis.
