HANDS ACROSS THE TRAIL 2000
Labor Day Weekend 2000

People (couples/groups) will be positioned approximately 60 miles apart
along the entire Appalachian Trail at noon on Friday Sept 1 2000.
Handshakes will be exchanged, then one person/couple/group will hike south,
and the other person/couple/group will hike north.   Three days later, at
noon on Monday Sept 4 2000 people/couples/groups from opposite directions
will meet and exchange handshakes.  In this manner, the entire trail will be
hiked, with the touching of hands unifying the event...

AT-L list members are the first group being asked to participate.  We should
fill as many of the slots available before the call goes out to other groups
(ALDHA, ATC, trail clubs, rec.backcountry).  So, we need warm bodies.  Sign
up now, even if you can't be sure whether you will be available next Labor
Day weekend.  We will have people on standby to fill your slot if it turns
out that you cannot make it...
