     Don't worry, Wiz. There's a whole crowd on the at-l who consider 
     "trail running" or "speed hiking" or "ultra" running something just 
     short of felonious assault, and who commonly post their opinions in 
     tones reminiscent of The Hiker Formerly Known As WingNut.
     
     Such comments, made in astounding ignorance and intolerance, are made 
     in a degree no less sanctimonious than that of RV drivers along the 
     Blue Ridge Parkway, pointing out their sheltered, air conditioned 
     windows at the "crazy hikers" across the parking lot, "suffering" 
     through wind, rain, heat, cold, bugs and dirt.
     
     George Carlin (Social Critic ExtraOrdinaire) pointed out a long time 
     ago that when driving down the highway, most of us observe those 
     driving faster than us to be "crazy" and those driving slower to be 
     "stupid." We think best of those who drive just like us. Or who 
     backpack "just like us." Hey! They're just like us! They're smart!

Y'know, not to be a wet towel, but I'm not sure there are too many of us on 
AT-L who are particularly concerned about this event.  Perhaps another 
forum would elicit more response...
