You might want to check out Harpers Ferry as a jump-off.  Maryland's
commuter railroad MARC has three PM trains out there.  Check

Either north or southbound, you will need a cab, shuttle, or bus to close
the loop, but they are available.  Where, depends on your hiking speed.
