[at-l] weekend hike ideas

Just moved to the DC area from NC.  Was curious if anyone could recommend a 
good weekend overnight hike in Western Virginia anywhere from an hour to 
three hours from DC.  Looking for a good work out with some good views.  
Haven't done much hiking in Virginia other than around Mt. Rogers.  I have a 
dog who loves the trail and a hike with lot's of water would be great for 
him.
