I received the message below from Karine "Blister Sister".  She is the
Gathering-East's "Hanover99" weekend chairperson.  Looks like another great
Gathering is being put together.

Backpacking coming events:

speakers, slide shows, presentations, equipment reviews, and lots of just
plain fun.

ALDHA-East - Gathering - "Hanover99" - Update
Here are some of the informational presentations planned for the Gathering
this year at Dartmouth in Hanover, NH. The times for each presentation have
not been finalized and will not be until late August.  In addition the
details for evening presentations are being finalized and will be released
within a week or two. Thus far Earl schaffer is a definate for Sunday night
and Saturday is still under planning - but is promising to be great. As far
as registration you can register at the Gathering total fee is $17.00 which
includes the camp site and all the events along with your years membership
to ALDHA. With that you will receive newsletters and and membership book
whcich is published yearly.

Interested in the Pacific Crest trail - attend one of the following
infomative presentaions
1997 Pacific Crest trail thru hike
AN ever popular presentation of Dan Smith and Karen Berger's 1997 thru hike
of the PCT. Followed by an informative question and answer forum.
The Pacific Crest Trail Association
Coming out all the way from their headquarters in california. members of the
PCTA will be on hand after an informative video presentation of the trail.
These are the individuals that maintain and plan on the trail - nobody knows
it better for up to date information.
Endurance Hiking
monitored by Warren Doyle.
On hand will be Pete Palmer currenlty holding the record title for the
fastest AT Thru Hike in 48 days 20 hours and 11 minutes.  Other past record
holders also on hand for questions.
Continental Divide Trail presented by David Patterson slideshow presentation
covering a 1998 thru hike of the CDT. Followed by an hour of informative
discussion and current information from the book "Alternative Routes to the
CDT" authored by the presentor.
Snowshoing and Back Country Skiing, A Winter Alternative presented by
Richard Greve A great way to stay in shape during the winter months.
Covering areas of teh Appalachian and Long Trail, particularly Mount
Mansfield, Camel's Hump and the Presidentials of the White Mountains in new
hampshire.  Equipment will be on hand. the workshop iis open to all who ever
participated or would like to try back country skiing or snowshoing.
Droopy's walk in the Woods - 1998 Appalachian trail Thru hike presented by
Fred Drewes Good for Appalachian Trail "Dreamers". Slideshow will present
actual footpath, selected flora and fauna, trail scenery and signs, trail
gear and hiking styles, trail people and places. Slides set to "AT Blues" by
Ralph Goodenough.
