Re: [at-l] The true origin of GORP

I think, if you're going to follow the word histroy people, you look
for the largest number of origins you can assemble, then pick the one
with the oldest date of origin. Thusly:

I heard of "gorp" in 4H camp in, say, 1974, as "good old reliable
peanuts." It was the name termed to the peanut/M&M/raison/(etc) mix
which went on those early summer camp hikes.

I've heard other acronyms, though, including a new one recently on
this list (though it skips my mind right now). Was it from Wild Bill?

Does anyone know where the term "gorp" came from? I searched the
archives at the suggestion of a senior list member (senior on the list,
not life) and found nothing. Well, I found out how awesome some folks
on this list are and how deep the history of the list is. Made me
wonder about somethings though. It also made me glad we are not have
flame wars and visiting trolls.

One week from today, I'll be at Max Patch! I CANNOT wait. Ok, so I'll
leave work now, jump in the car, oh, wait, I've gotta stay until I get
paid. Darn.
