Nothing wrong with being honest with yourself! I've backed down from climbs
several times because of various circumstances. One time was 1993, I had been
trying to summit Katahdin at least once a year ( started the 'streak' in 1974
). But that year I had to cancel three trips to Baxter because of work, and
my last chance would be a drive all night, climb quickly, and drive back to
Mass that same night deal. Made it to the Gateway in the clouds, then it got
very cold and windy with one of those soaking fogs.
My legs were shakin'. Bit the bullet, and went back down. Bummed out a bit,
but came to realize that there's nothing wrong with being Smart!
You'll get em next time, Whisperlite!
