Hey Datto,

I don't think your deer whistles are going to work in either position  but
you can usually pick up a pretty decent "grunter" at the nearest Wally
World for under $10 which will work like a charm (deer charm, that is).  My
personal preference is for the handheld variety, but hey, I'm sure with a
little ingenuity and another rainy Sat. you'll be able to mount it on your
pack.
