The count of northbound thru-hikers from the Walasi-Yi Center at
Neels Gap, Ga. today, May 5, 1999, is 1660.

This is already 19% higher than last year's total of 1400. Jeff Hansen
says there will be a small surge of college students starting in the
the few weeks that will probably take the total to 1700 or more.
