[at-l] Two years ago

Two years ago, on Wingfoot's list, there was someone putting hikers down
as being whiners. I won't give the name, or the quote of the person that
said it. But, the jist, gist, jest, just of it was that the person grew
up poor and hikers are babies. Here was my reply:
(Ahh, the flashback in place of anything productive and new. Don't ya
love it?)

Ahhhh, yes. I remember the day that me and Abe were walking through the
woods of Illinois. "What's that yonder, Abe" I says. "Looks to me to be a
jackal," the lanky boy replied. "You want I should shoot it, Abe?" "My
concerns are not with you and your weapon. I'm concerned with trying to
figure out a way to make the word 'score' more prominent in our
vocabulary. Carry on as you will, I am going to sit here with this
board and charcoal and see if I can come up with something profound, and
yet trendy."
I proceeded to load my muskat and take aim. As I looked down that long
blue barrel, I noticed something tied around the animal's neck. Closer
inspection showed it to be a rope. Not a long rope, mind you, but a rope
just the same. "Abe, that critter's got a rope tied about its neck. You
still want I should shoot it?" Well, Abe was still not interested in my
quandry. I looked at his board to see what he had been working on. There,
in the black and blonde of charcoal and pine, was the answer..."If you
don't wear warm cloths and shoes to school, you won't score with the
ladies."
