i lived 11 years in england from age 8 to 19, 1974-85. i've done some
walking and backpacking in both north and south wales - i know snowdon is
in the north, but i can't for the life of me remember the region in the
south, pen-something-or-other, lots of limestone. also done a little on
the isle of mull, and the cornish coast.

anyway, from what i can remember: the snowdon area is similar to the
whites in terms of trail grade and above-treeline feel. actually, very
similar to the sierra nevada out here. i forget the height of snowdon -
about 3000 ft? or is it 4000? south wales is very much like the AT in
pennsylvania, where you travel along fairly level ridgetops, then go down,
cross the valley, climb back up to another ridge. the cornish coast is a
lot like virginia, at least the parts of cornwall that i walked in - rural
farmland, and going in and out of all those coves is like going in and out
of all the draws and gullies along the VA ridges.

probably not much help, but that's what i'm best at...
