Yay!  It's good to know that there are people out there that have gone to the
trouble to qualify themselves for emergency care.  In my group we have one
EMT, one W-EMT, one WFR, and one Wilderness First Aid person.  Another is a
physical therapist.  

It gives confidence in how to improvise in case of a true emergency, but it
also serves as a personal preventative because of knowledge of what can happen
if one makes this mistake or ignores that problem.

It's worth the trouble and expense, folks.  Look past some of the gear
selection info in Outside and Backpacker to the ads by SOLO, First Lead, and
others.  Or there in your hometown, check with the EMS.  There may be
wilderness courses being offered, but you have to get in there early, because
they really fill up.
