Yes the friary is closed this season. There is a group of nuns who are
temporarily homeless as their facility is being rebuilt. Yes the ball field
is open. It does have a covered picnic shelter. I would bet that some people
sleep in it (open on all four sides but rain proof as long as you stay away
from the edge.
