[at-l] Vasque Alpha Boots

I received the Vasque Alpha boots I ordered last week.

I've honored them with the "Ugly Boot Award". Feel funny too. They
feel like the bottom of fishing waders -- where the whole wader is
made of rubber and bends & folds with a clunk each time you walk.
'Bend and fold, reach for the stars, Blah blah blah blah on Jupiter
and Mars'. Anyone else remember that from Kindergarten?

Gonna be one of those days again. I can feel it coming on already.

Ugly and clunkish...Perfect for a thruhike.

I was looking for a lightweight inexpensive mid-hi boot to compliment
my main Salomon Exit II Low boots. The Vasque Alpha boots are
entry-level boots at about $40 + shipping on sale from Campmor. I
didn't request the Ugly, that was a bonus at no extree charge. And
they're Olive Green too -- so chic. Gives that US Army / Annie Hall
look I was after. Gotta get my Hunter Orange baseball hat to go along
with these boots. Maybe some of those flowered swim trunks too. I
guess I won't need the Petzl.

Hmmm. Trail Name Possibility for someone: Darth Wader
(too too wisky, wait...tu-tu wisky). Alternative: Putzl.

I'll probably test the Vasque Alpha boot out on the upcoming Buckeye
Trail section hike at the end of February, then make up my mind about
whether to keep them.
