[at-l] advice for 99ers...



two recent posts reminded of a silly piece of very useful advice:

i once witnessed a fellow hiking with one hand above his head.  every few
seconds, he would switch hands, slapping them together in the process. 
now, i have seen many goofy things in the forest, but this begged for an
explanation.  he said, if the noseeums are buzzing about the head, raise
your hand.  seems that these little buggers will buzz around the item
that is highest in the air.  if you raise your hand above your head, they
will buzz the hand and not the head.  he would switch hands when one got
tired, and did the slap thing to remove any that had landed...

now, of course, if you are protein deprived, keep the hands at your
sides, and inhale often.  those noseeums may be small, but they are
flavorful and nutritious...
