[at-l] Lymerix vaccination information

Just got off the phone with my doctor and thought I would share some
information...

First of all, if your looking for the real technical information about
Lyme disease and Lymerix, check out Smith-Kline Beecham's web site.
There's more information there than you or your doctor will ever want to
wade through.

www.sb.com

In any case, the vaccination is a three part deal with the first two
shots coming one month apart and the third shot coming 11 months after
the second shot. Efficacy is 50% after the first two shots and 78%
after the third.

I caught up with my doctor just in time to get the first two shots
before I start my thruhike. For those Y2K thruhikers, you should look
into it now to see if the vaccination is something you want to do. You
could get the full set before your hike if you act fairly quickly.

My doctor does not yet have it on hand (she's waiting for the CDC
recommendation due later this month) so she's going to call in a
prescription for me to pick up and bring to her.

37 days and counting...
