Re: [at-l] Lyme disease

Our local hiking club recently had a guest speaker from the
pharmaceutical company that manufactures Lymerix. I would contact the
company directly as I'm sure they'd send you all kinds of information.
The speaker was very informative, and if he had the vaccine with him
that night, he could have given it to about 40 of us in the room. After
seeing what Lyme disese can do to a person, I'd prefer to get the
vaccine. My husband got menningitis and encephalitis (his Lyme disease
tests were negative) this past November (not hiking related) and the
symptoms and after-effects are similar to those in a severe case of Lyme
disease. After what he went through, I don't want to take the chance. I
intend to see my family doctor in the near future and see if he
dispenses this vaccine yet. The speaker also told us that many health
insurance companies are picking up the tab for the vaccine because it's
cheaper for them than paying the almost $15,000.00 average cost per case
if the symptoms are misdiagnosed and the person's case becomes severe.
Hope this info. is helpful. Feel free to forward it to the ATL or anyone
who might be interested.
