I put the slow rehydrators, carrots, potatoes, small pebbles, in a small (.25 ltr) nalgeen container at lunch time.  They're soft by dinner.  Cleanup is quick. Put now soft contents in bowl (I use one of those flatish tinted nalgeen bowls and a spoon for all meals), drink remaining water then rinse with fresh water and drink, cause even the vitamins rehydrate...
