ATML Trailplace will be restored

Folks, I am somewhat overwhelmed by your emails. I have
received over 500 messages from folks who have requested
that I reconsider my decision to shut down Trailplace. I
honestly did not realize that the feelings were so deep
for so many of you, and I am really touched by your
expressions of sympathy and support.

With that kind of outpouring, I have no choice but to
find a way to keep the site going. I am restoring everything
on the website (the lists were never affected).

However, the basic problems have not been electronic, but
people problems. I still need to find a way to keep the
few who want to disrupt the list by trying to suprecede my
administration of the list on the list from doing so, and
this I can do electronically partially.

As soon as I finish the 1999 Handbook, I will institute
some changes in the way the website is set up. I have been
assurred by the author of the scripts I use to power the
website that what I need can be done.

I'll leave the details for later, when I know them myself.
For now, I would like us to get back to discussiing the AT
and hiking. I urge those who are here but have loyalties
to the other list to cooperate with what I am trying to
build here, or to at least refrain from causing me further
administrative grief.

Finally, I thank you again for your expressions of concern,
support, and encouragement, and most of all for understanding
the basic problem that caused my decision in the first place.
I now know that enough of you know that I have feelings, too,
and know that you appreciate what all of us have been able
to do here together.
