Below is a fuel comsumption guide for white gas stoves. This is a "GUIDE,"
YMMV. White gas is available all most anywhere along the AT. It can be gotten
in small amounts.

Fuel Consumption Guide:
FOR FOOD.
Per person Precooked Meals 1.33 oz X Number of Meals = Fuel Needed in OZ
Per person Unprepared Meals 2.66 oz X Number of Meals = Fuel Needed in OZ
Per person Melting Snow for water 4 oz X Number of Meals = Fuel Needed in
OZ
FOR WATER PURIFICATION
4 oz's of fuel boils 3-4 quarts of water for 5 minutes.
Per Quart of water Boiling for 5 minutes
1 oz X Quarts of water needed = Fuel Needed in OZ.
OLD
Boiling water for 1 minute at sea level, adding 1 minute for each additional
1,000 feet above sea level, or boil for 5 minutes no matter where you are on
the AT.
NEW
Merely bring water to a ROLLING BOIL will do, since even at high elevations
the lower temperatures requored to make warer boil is adequate to kill
Giardia, vegetative bacteria, and viruses
Water Boils at:
sea level 212 F (100 C)
5,000 ft 203 F (95 C)
10,000 ft 194 F (90 C)

1/32 = 1.33
1/16 = 2.66
1/3 = 5.33
1/4 = 4
1/2 = 8
1 = 16
