I use a fanny pack, anyone around the house will do.  I happen to have one
that is quite light.  I don't cut anything up, just attach it to my shoulder
straps after I have my backpack on.  That way, I don't have a strap on my back
to rub against my backpack.  I love haveing my maps, snacks, TP, and camera
handy, especially the camera.  It also takes a little weight off the backpack.
