Very true, but it's a good representation of how cold it actually got
throughout the first 500 miles of the trail. For example, Banner Elk
approximates Elk Park, Mount Leconte/Newfound Gap does the same for most
of the high Smokies, Beech Mountain is similar to Unaka, etc etc. The
town of Highlands is usually parallel to Springer as well.
