I cook a shoulder roast of beef or a loin of pork until tender, then shred the
meat with a couple of forks and dry the results. The meat comes back really well
and is much easier to deal with than dried hamburger - no fat to get rid of.  

I've added dried beef, pork, chicken and tuna to my meals.

Works great!
