I fly out of Richmond VA fairly often via P'burg or Chicago, and depending on which side of the the plane I'm on I can see the meadow at Reed's Gap at the north end of Central VA section 16 or the suspension bridge over the Tye River at the south end of the section.  So far so good....but respecffully with amendment I submit

 Whenever you travel on the east coast you try to pick out where your route
crosses the AT, even when you're flying, and make everyone on the plane look down at it...
