Well, I dunno.  Ern, et al having leg of lamb on a backpacking trip!
Wait'll 'the gang' hears about this . . . .  


"So, whenever we pack dehydrated items, I always use ground
sirloin, lamb, turkey breast, never in large chunks.  A
typical evening meal of lamb parmesan with broccoli and
rice, for instance, is hydrated in the morning (with one
half of the water).  By the evening, the dehydrated food
will have soaked up the water.  Then the remaining half of
the water is added at the time of the cooking.  By adding
water in the morning, cooking time is reduced tremendously,
thus saving fuel.  Rice, other than instant rice, takes
around 30 to 40 minutes to cook properly.  This method cuts
it down to about 10 to 15 minutes."
