[at-l] HurdBrookShelter & BaxterSP

Spent Friday night at the Hurd Brook Shelter, northernmost shelter of the 100
mile wilderness/schmilderness. 25 degrees at 2am brrrrrrrrrrrr!. Two registers
were there, one from 20/20 and one from RoyGBiv (love that trailname!) I stole
(hehehe) 20/20s, and will mail it along, no entires in a week, so I think
NBers were done coming out of the 100 mile. Quiet night, gunshots at 9,
coyotes at 2. Drove into Baxter on Saturday to day hike without having to wear
HunterOrange, I just can't enjoy myself wondering if I might get shot, you
know what I mean? Baxter is still open this time of year, above treeline is
"closed" and no camping, though. The rangers had taken a hiker ( not AT) down
off Katahdin who had spent 3 days stuck at the Gateway. He went up on Friday
29 Sept. into blizzard conditions. He's lucky to be alive.
